For IT professionals, Microsoft Visio Professional provides a complete set of network diagramming tools to clearly plan and document existing networks, proposals for new infrastructure, and directory services.
Engineers and facilities managers can use Microsoft Visio to create electrical, mechanical, and process engineering schematics. Unlike CAD and other technical drawing programs, this product enables users to draft complex diagrams with little or no training.
For developers, Microsoft Visio Professional offers tools to create entity relationship diagrams for proposed database schemas and to map and troubleshoot existing Internet or intranet sites.

Microsoft Visio Professional can be used to generate a map of an existing website or create a conceptual map of a new one. Users can create database modeling diagrams with reverse engineering of any Open Database Connectivity–compliant data source.

The 2010 version of Microsoft Visio Professional adds the Fluent user interface, which simplifies navigation by replacing menus and toolbars with a set of task-based tabs known as the Ribbon. The software also allows for real-time sharing of dynamic, data-driven diagrams with a web browser through Microsoft Visio Services (requires Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010).

Service Pack 1 includes new and previously released security, performance, and stability updates for Microsoft Visio 2010.

If an organisation needs advanced process management features — like diagram templates for SharePoint workflows, Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), and Six Sigma — and the ability to publish to a process repository for centralised storage of process documents, review the additional functions offered in the Microsoft Visio Premium 2010 package.

Important Volume Licensing Information: With Microsoft Visio 2010, organisations can choose between two types of volume license keys for product activation: a Key Management Service (KMS) license key or a Multiple Activation Key (MAK). Organisations will be provided with both types of keys on the Microsoft Volume Licensing website.

Microsoft recommends KMS activation only for organisations with at least 50 networked computers requiring activation for Microsoft Visio 2010 or requiring activation for a combination of Microsoft Visio 2010, Microsoft Office 2010, and Microsoft Project 2010 software. Organisations with fewer than 50 computers requiring activation or organisations with non-networked computers should activate their products using a MAK. Microsoft offers instructions on how to use a MAK or KMS key to activate volume editions of Office 2010 software, which also applies to Visio 2010.

Acquiring the Installation Media and License Key: Installing this product requires installation media and a license key. Installation media will be shipped to you free of charge.

The license allows you to use the installation media to install the product on as many computers as you have received donations for. This quantity is specified in the donation email sent to your organisation email address after your eligibility has been verified and your administrative fee has been received. A separate email will give you information about obtaining your license key.
