Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 R2 is a server operating system designed to be used in Internet-facing web-serving environments. It integrates Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.5, ASP.NET, and .NET Framework to enable organisations to deploy web pages, applications, and services. It is not designed to handle other roles, such as print server or domain controller.

The R2 update of Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 improves power management and adds administration and diagnostic tools.

The Service Pack 1 of Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 enhances Hyper-V to use physical memory more efficiently, improves the visual capabilities of remote desktop clients, and adds support for more addresses when using DirectAccess to securely access enterprise shares.

Important: Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 R2 requires a 64-bit system. Organisations that want to run Microsoft Windows Web Server 2008 R2 on a 32-bit system can receive a donation of this product and then obtain the older SP2 version from Microsoft, either by downloading or by purchasing the DVD-ROM.
