Beginning 14 October 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide support, security and feature updates for Windows 10. Here's what you should know.
What does end of support mean?
After 14 October, your Windows 10 devices will still function, but Microsoft will no longer provide:
- Security updates and patches.
- Feature upgrades.
- Technical support.
Note: Without security updates, your Windows 10 devices will be more vulnerable to malware and computer viruses, as newly discovered system exploits and threats will no longer be patched.
What You Should Do:
If you still have Windows 10 devices, you should:
- Upgrade your device to Windows 11. Microsoft is offering free upgrades to Windows 11, as long as your device is running Windows 10 version 22H2 and meets the minimum system requirements. To see if your device is eligible for the free upgrade, go the "Windows Update" setting and check for updates.
- Order a new device with Windows 11. If your current device does not support Windows 11, consider ordering a new computer that does. TechSoup New Zealand has a large range of refurbished devices most of which come with Windows 11 (look for 'W11P' in the product title for these units).
We strongly recommend that you migrate to Windows 11 as soon as you can.
Does TechSoup New Zealand offer Extended Security Updates for Windows 10?
For organisations that must stay on Windows 10 for now and still need security updates, Microsoft is offering an extension on security updates through their "Extended Security Updates" (AKA ESU) program. Unfortunately, these licences are not available for purchase through TechSoup New Zealand at this time.

If you have more questions, Microsoft has put together a comprehensive FAQ on end-of-support and what means for you and we recommend reading that. If you have any questions about how we can help you source a new Windows 11 device, please contact us.
