Presentation 1

Using social media to (re)engage about sexual health and build online communities
For its recent social marketing campaign, The Big Picture, ACON Health developed the first large scale social media initiative in the Australian HIV sector to target gay men who account for ¾ of new HIV infections in NSW. This presentation will show how the social media campaign was developed and will explore the benefits of Facebook and Twitter, the challenges faced and the lessons learned, such as:

  • What posts or tweets worked and why
  • The impact of social media on traffic to the website Facebook reach and engagement
  • Twitter under performance and why
  • Implications on project planning, project management and resources for internal staff

Presentation 2

Online crisis support and suicide prevention
Lifeline has recently launched an Online Crisis Chat application with tremendous response and well received feedback. The system allows helpseekers to interact with professional, well-trained crisis supporters who assist individuals in keeping safe. The key initiative proposed by Lifeline's strategic vision of making 'Australia free of suicide'. The system is a classic example of how technology helps in enabling crisis support and ultimately suicide prevention.

Speaker biography:
Sajid is the Chief Information Officer at Lifeline Australia. He is responsible for leading and managing the provision of ICT services to the Lifeline National Office in Canberra and shared services to 24 Member Organisations located in every state and territory.
