Course Outline:

If there is one thing we have all learned from the Coronavirus crisis, it’s that good data is the key to making good decisions in situations of uncertainty. Even politicians used to taking the lead have been deferring to the daily data and the science. As lockdown eases across Australia, how do social organisations plan for this changing and uncertain future? What opportunities does it present to reform and improve our organisations to make them fit for a potentially challenging future? How should social organisations use data to inform strategy and improve performance?

This webinar will provide a roadmap for putting in place the key elements for a high performing social organisation that can measure its impact, grow proven programs, and manage limited resources in the most efficient way to deliver mission. We call this ‘Performance Management – to Mission’.

We will provide frameworks and case studies to help social organisations focus on what’s important to achieving their mission, and to put in place the key elements for a high-performing organisation prepared for an uncertain future.

Part 1: Data during uncertainty

  • Assessing the forces at work on the organisation - whether changes to government funding, adjustments to social distancing or other external factors including influence of COVID-19
  • How to link mission with measurable goals in preparation for the next strategic plan
  • Using the upheaval to open opportunities for accelerating key reforms in the organisation - including use of data and technology and improving service models, retaining what works during lockdown

Part 2: Building a high-performing social organisation using data

  • What does a high-performing organisation look like?
  • What key elements drive high performance?
  • Building good information and data systems for decisions during uncertainty - financial, workforce, social impact, and program and service
  • Integrating outcomes data to deliver on mission and improve social impact - how an organisation can know it is making a difference and achieving its social mission
  • Getting started building your data and performance system
  • Performance plan on a page

What is not included in the program?

The session will not focus on immediate COVID-19 operational planning (as that is already complete for most organisations), but on the 12-18 month strategic implications of the virus. This will also not be an end-to-end strategic planning discussion, rather the focus will be on use of data to make strategic decisions.
