GST changes from 1st March 2016
TechSoup New Zealand will start charging GST on all products and services from 1st March 2016.
TechSoup New Zealand is a part of a global network of charitable organisations, working together to provide IT to organisations across the world. TechSoup New Zealand is administered by Connecting Up in Australia.
Connecting Up and TechSoup New Zealand have recently registered for GST in New Zealand. This allows us to partner with companies locally that wish to distribute discounted products and services to charities, without needing to pass the GST cost on to the charity in the total price we charge.
So what does this mean for charities?
Previously we were not able to claim back GST we incurred for services originating in NZ, meaning end costs were higher. From March 1, we will no longer need to be passing on the GST costs directly that we incur as part of the total price for events, workshops, conferences and forums we run in NZ. We will also not need to pass on GST to charities for products we resell or any other services we offer within New Zealand.
The GST will be added on top of products, rather than an additional cost in the total price we need to pass on - and this can ultimately reduce the cost to your charity of some procured discounted products and services through us, as charities are able to claim back the GST.
A further benefit of this change, is that now we will be able to offer a wider range of products and services than ever before. Due to not having to pass on GST costs, we will be looking to provide additional services to you that might have been cost-prohibitive for us previously. An example of this is Adobe Creative Cloud, plus other discounted partners coming soon.
Charities will soon notice that all donations programme invoices will include GST. You will still be receiving these products at the same administration fee, however as a charity, you will simply need to retain your invoices so you can claim back the GST component of your transactions with us.
If you would like to place orders for donations, discounts or webinars, please place and pay for your order before 1st March 2016.
