With a noticeable facelift and an increase in features and security, Windows 8 has brought a new user experience to the way people use their technology. In order to stay relevant to the ever advancing mobility of technology and competitive against other mobile operating systems, Windows 8 has improved its user experience on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.
TechSoup had a look into what Windows 8 offers organisations as an operating system, and here are some of the key features we found:
The touch-screen friendly design makes the transition between computer, tablet, and smart phone seamless and synchronized. This feature would be useful for people who need to use technology on the go or others who use multiple devices so they can work both in and out of the office. One thing to watch for is that this system will only work if all the devices you use are running on the same Windows 8 platform.
Working in a team environment, information sharing can be a daily necessity. Windows 8 makes transferring information between devices easier with an integrated use of Microsoft SkyDrive (a file storage service making information retrievable from multiple devices) and native support for USB 3.0, allowing faster data transfer.
And, Security has been increased by introducing PINs and Picture Passwords, targeted at mobile devices specifically, to secure your information when you are out in the community.
There are multiple editions of Windows 8 available through TechSoup New Zealand,
and these options include:
- Windows 8 Pro includes features
aimed at professional environments who will know and use advanced features of
programmes
- Windows 8 Enterprise includes
features aimed at business environments (available through volume
licensing only)
So, with a multitude of features developed to simplify your working day, Windows 8 has plenty to offer. The trick, as always with technology, is finding out how it can best work for you and your needs.
