What's the story with technology?

Festival
for the Future
is returning to the capital for the second-year running. Held in Wellington from
November 16-18, the festival brings together five keynote speakers and 15 young
innovators, with 300 young professionals, thinkers and doers who will be
inspired by their stories. With so many stories to be told, we're thinking
about all of the different ways they can be shared.
Storytelling has always been an important tool for sharing information and this is evident in every walk of life. It is how history is passed through generations and how we learn about someone we have just met; it's how we entertain, inform, learn and grow.
In more recent times, technology has brought storytelling to the forefront through social media, the many budding bloggers, and even they way that we involve computers and projectors in our presentations. With the changes in technology come so many exciting new ways to tell your story and enhance your presentations. Here are a few page-turners for you:
- SlideRocket allows you to create presentations with personality and colour, reflecting the vibrancy or mood of your story. Your presentations are accessible online or offline, and are easily shared with others through networks within SlideRocket. And for the design-challenged of us, SlideRocket provides professionally designed presentations as inspiration.
- Microsoft Expression Studio provides you with a suite of applications allowing you to produce high-quality video and show it across multiple platforms for when you need to take your presentation from your home computer to the venue. It also produces seamless websites and apps for both your phone and computer, to make your story accessible anywhere, anytime.
- PowerPoint is an easy-to-use tool to create animated slide shows for your stories. It enables you to add photos, videos, animated shapes and text, and diagrams and graphs to help you get your points across clearly. Presentations can also be broadcast between friends, colleagues, or audiences to share stories.
- Prezi is about the creativity and visualisation of information. It helps you to organise, present and share your ideas in a dynamic way with its animation features bringing photos and videos to life.
Technology aside, at the heart of storytelling is still passion and engagement with your audience, and as such, it's important to learn how to structure your story and communicate your messages. But stories are made to be shared and with these dynamic technology tools you can enhance and share your stories with hundreds, if not thousands of people at once. Now that's a story worth telling.
