A key part of what it takes to be a leader is the capacity to solve problems and there are usually lots of those in a not-for-profit environment. Many of these are complex problems. There's an important distinction between a complex and a complicated problem. Typically a complicated problem can be solved with hard work and the application of a technical expertise. Like solving a maths problem, or writing a great press release. Often what makes a problem complex is the people factor – personalities, politics and power.
