TechSoup New Zealand Microsoft admin fee price rise Because we knew many of the nonprofits we serve planned to request product donations in-line with our fiscal year end cycle (which runs from July 1 through June 30), we held admin fees at the current levels until July 1, 2010.  However:

For well over 10 years we’ve been making 1,000 calls a day using a paper-based system. Whilst it was obvious that an IT system would improve our efficiency, we did not feel that using our donors’ money to fund such a system was as important as getting our programmes into more schools to support kids in need.

Some of our donor partners limit their order requests to 1 each financial year. TechSoup New Zealand wants you to be aware that if you request any software from the donor partners listed below before June 30, your account will be reset to allow you to place another order anytime from July 1 onwards.

It is hard to believe how far we've come since we first started donating Microsoft software. TechSoup Global began by distributing software donations to worthy nonprofit organisations in the United States. More than 10 years later, Microsoft software donations are mainstays of the TechSoup Global program. And it's a good thing!

Social capital, social enterprise, social entrepreneurs, social investment, social innovation...it feels like there is a whole new raft of terms swilling around in the community sector. These were all explored in an incredibly lively and informative conference in Wellington recently - SOCANZ Doing Real Good Conference. It was organised and convened by Viv Maidaborn , pictured where with Tina Reid (Social Development Partners) at the TechSoupNZ display.

TechSoup New Zealand was offered the opportunity to attend this annual event in Wellington with a view to alerting attendees from all around New Zealand to the availability of technology donations and discounts. This was a weekend event, with registration on the Friday afternoon, so we had our stand for the Friday afternoon during the registration phase.

With more and more not-for-profit organisations competing to gain support from the community especially in regards to funding, it is important that your message is communicated clearly and effectively using the right marketing channels. People need to know and understand the work that you do and ultimately share the same passion for your cause to compel them to be involved. Net2Akl held their most recent meet-up on Tuesday 30 October at the Amnesty NZ offices. The group of 15 or so people who gathered were treated to an inside look at how Amnesty International worked with advertising agency Colenso, to dream up and create a clever, engaging, and technology centric idea to bring awareness to human rights and teach New Zealanders the realities of their actions.

In more recent times, technology has brought storytelling to the forefront through social media, the many budding bloggers, and even they way that we involve computers and projectors in our presentations. On Tuesday 27 November, Microsoft hosted a free Connecting Communities event, with support from TechSoup New Zealand and Infoxchange, which showcased how information and communication technology (ICT) can transform the efficiency and effectiveness of an organisation to help deliver better social outcomes. 

On 28 November, the NetSquared groups from Auckland, Wellington, Adelaide and Melbourne came together to host a NetSquared Down Under meet-up (#Net2DU).  

Learning online is an easy way to get the information you need without having to leave the office. Connecting Up, the organisation that runs the TechSoup New Zealand programme runs monthly webinars to help not-for-profits - many of which are free.

During the first week of December ConnectingUp Australia hosted a series of workshops in Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton. Fundraising, as any organisation knows, can be a real challenge. Find out the key learnings from facilitator, Graeme Rusell. 

120 delegates came together for the sixth Not-For-Profit conference in Wellington on February 19 and 20. We know that IT capacity is an important issue for community organisations in New Zealand, and were delighted to see that several other IT services and products were on display.
