  • Newtown Union Health in Wellington have recently upgraded their software thanks to TechSoup NZ and Microsoft.  Odette Wood, Newtown Union Health’s Operations Manager, explains the impact on their organization. “It has enabled us to achieve a number of things including improved email capability, the ability for everyone to “hot-desk”, a standard suite of MS Office software so everyone is using the same version and future upgrades can be done across the whole network at once and an improved central storage of our organisation’s documents.  At a higher level, the upgrade means a much more robust system, less maintenance costs/risks, better internal communication systems and processes and the increased ability to support a growing organization spread across geographically separated sites as we move into the future.
  • Last year when our computer system was limping along, trying to avoid an imminent fatality, Techsoup came to our rescue with software allowing us to upgrade to a server-based system. A large IT expense was just not on the cards for a small charitable organisation such as ours where government funding was minimal and funds from donors are aimed at the direct support programmes. What a change! The timely upgrade has allowed our staff more efficient access whilst in the office, and also for our staff on the road and in remote offices to be able to access the information directly rather than via a call to the office and have it relayed over the phone. I am actually sitting at home writing this case-study (due to the Christchurch earthquake) but still managing to offer our usual support to our clients throughout New Zealand, thanks to Techsoup software and our new system.

  • TechSoup New Zealand Microsoft admin fee price rise Because we knew many of the nonprofits we serve planned to request product donations in-line with our fiscal year end cycle (which runs from July 1 through June 30), we held admin fees at the current levels until July 1, 2010.  However:
  • The annual Social Heroes Awards from the Robin Hood Foundation, are where leading business and other not-for-profit leaders, award and celebrate inspirational social collaborations between business and not-for-profit partners. Microsoft and TechSoup New Zealand were among the nominees for this year's Collaboration in Communities Award.
  • For well over 10 years we’ve been making 1,000 calls a day using a paper-based system. Whilst it was obvious that an IT system would improve our efficiency, we did not feel that using our donors’ money to fund such a system was as important as getting our programmes into more schools to support kids in need.
  • Some of our donor partners limit their order requests to 1 each financial year. TechSoup New Zealand wants you to be aware that if you request any software from the donor partners listed below before June 30, your account will be reset to allow you to place another order anytime from July 1 onwards.

  • Net2Akl held their most recent meet-up on Tuesday 30 October at the Amnesty NZ offices. The group of 15 or so people who gathered were treated to an inside look at how Amnesty International worked with advertising agency Colenso, to dream up and create a clever, engaging, and technology centric idea to bring awareness to human rights and teach New Zealanders the realities of their actions.

  • On Tuesday 27 November, Microsoft hosted a free Connecting Communities event, with support from TechSoup New Zealand and Infoxchange, which showcased how information and communication technology (ICT) can transform the efficiency and effectiveness of an organisation to help deliver better social outcomes. 
  • On 28 November, the NetSquared groups from Auckland, Wellington, Adelaide and Melbourne came together to host a NetSquared Down Under meet-up (#Net2DU).  
  • Learning online is an easy way to get the information you need without having to leave the office. Connecting Up, the organisation that runs the TechSoup New Zealand programme runs monthly webinars to help not-for-profits - many of which are free.
